Abloh: How To Be Both
BBC iPLAYER
Virgil Abloh: How To Be Both is a film exploring the life of legendary designer Virgil Abloh. Spearheaded by award winning Producer Janet Lee and revered Director Cassie Quarless, the film tracks his spectacular ascent from Kanye West’s right-hand man to his role as artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton. The programme charts his unconventional path to the top, along with the struggles he faced, with contributors including Benji B, Honey Dijon, Omar S, Katie Eary and Headie One.
The film relies heavily on motion graphics to change rhythm and slow pace at choice junctures of the story. These visual cutaways, typographic overlays and motion graphic transitions were ideated with careful research by Dorcia into Virgil Abloh’s archive, and then deployed to capture the essence of his creative legacy, bringing his approach to design into the narrative of the documentary.
