Released on Mo’ Wax in 1998, Psyence Fiction was the debut studio album by electronic music group U.N.K.L.E aka James Lavelle and DJ Shadow. Now our fourth collaboration with the band, Lavelle commissioned Dorcia Studio to produce the promotional teaser for its 2020 rerelease, featuring unreleased tracks and remixes. Encapsulating artwork by Ben Drury and Futura2000, we reimagined the seminal album artwork in this dynamic short animation, accompanied by an exclusive unreleased track from the director’s cut.
Jolting overlays and sporadic transitions were employed to match the heavy trip-hop rhythm of the track, with cut and paste techniques marrying with the sampling style of James and DJ Shadow. Visual cues by way of type and illustration are utilised in this teaser to evoke Shynola’s original Guns Blazing music video.
