Ten, Nine, Eight: NiNE8 Collective
Somerset House
NiNE8 are a multi-disciplinary collective founded in London in 2016, with a focus on music and visual art. The collective have been commissioned by Tate Modern, British Fashion Council and National Maritime Museum, along with leading venues and brands to curate evenings and experiences.
For their latest event, NiNE8 were commissioned by Somerset House to program their music offering on New Year’s Eve and produce a visual art installation. The installation involved collages printed in cyanotype and subsequently scaled and printed on 3 metre long sheets of fabric, which were hung in sequence across the East Wing of Somerset House.
For the main hall leading from Somerset House’s courtyard to their balcony where the fireworks are observed, NiNE8 entrusted Dorcia Studio to bring their collages to life, creating a dynamic and eye-catching animation. Working from over 14 detailed collages, Dorcia dissected elements from each artwork and brought motion to the static piece, merging stop animation from the collages with archival footage of previous NiNE8 events, grading this footage to coalesce perfectly with the blue cyano tones of the collages. The result was a captivating motion piece that both carried and extrapolated the installation situated in the East Wing into the main hall.
