The Other Side

‘The Other Side’ is the second single from James Lavelle’s much anticipated seventh UNKLE album “The Road Part II / Lost Highway” released 29th March 2019. 

The art direction for UNKLE’s album centres on artworks of John Stark, a heady blend of baroque and mediaeval motifs painted in a surrealist style, with subjects framed in plinths and alcoves that evoke slide projector frames and daguerreotypes. 

Inspired by the works of Pablo Ferro and Maurice Binder, Stark’s artwork was abstracted then framed through dot windows and kaleidoscopic blends, sequenced with a nod to b-movie title sequences. Pairing the austere and gothic feeling of Stark’s work with the moody and labyrinth-like loops of Lavelle, the visual reveals the filmic capacity of UNKLE’s trip-hop masterpiece.
